CALIFORNIA'S SOLAR MANDATE: YOUR UPDATE

The California Energy Commission unanimously decided on August 11 to start requiring solar panels and battery storage in new commercial structures and high-rise residential projects on January 1, 2023. The state's Building Standards Commission will now review the suggestion, and it is anticipated that it would be included in a comprehensive reform of the building code in December.

The energy plan also mandates that new homes be connected in a way that makes switching from natural gas to electricity as simple as possible, if not encouraged.

Hotels, offices, clinics and medical facilities, supermarket and convenience stores, restaurants, schools, and public venues including theaters, auditoriums, and convention centers would all be impacted by the idea.
